So we went to Bratislava on a sunny Friday afternoon to celebrate our second anniversary and the first thing that happened on the way there was that we were stuck in (Friday) traffic. We arrived in Bratislava way after our estimated arrival time, but that didn’t bother us much as we were ON VACAAAATION!

We checked in to our **** hotel and after checking out hotel facilities we went out for a dinner which turned up to be really nice and quite inexpensive. Prices in Bratislava have risen since Euro has been introduced, so it’s really not easy to find a restaurant with lower prices then in Vienna. But we did! We went to Pizza Mizza and were pleasantly surprised by the place, the food, service and prices.

With bellies full of delicious Pizza (and Becherovka ;-) we headed back to our luxury home where we decided on ordering our breakfast in bed for the next morning. dsc_0126.jpg

Breakfast in bed is a really nice thing – especially in a hotel – one doesn’t have to bother about bread crumbs all around the bed! After our huuuge breakfast we decided to go and see a couple of monuments and sites Bratislava has to offer, so we “climbed” up to the castle which rewarded us with spectacular view over the city and even of Austria – which is not really far away. The castle itself was destroyed in the 19th century,  so it’s newly build in the 1950s… somehow the buliding work is either still not finished or they are renovating it again, so there is not much to see except loads and loads of scaffolding… the park surrounding the castle is worth visiting though:  huge chestnut trees are defining it. dsc_0246.jpg dsc_0145.jpg

after the “hike” we had to get some rest so we went back to the hotel where we watched “clover field” – we have booked a business room with free pay-tv! good choice – the room, not really the movie which was rather disappointing.

As Saturday was the day of our actual anniversary we decided to go to have a proper meal. After cruising around the city center for half an hour being undecided where to have dinner we ended in a restaurant that serves Mexican fusion cuisine. oh well… the menu was offering thai kebabs next to nachos next to wiener schnitzel next to greek salad. That’s when we came to the conclusion that no one should travel to Bratislava in hopes of getting exquisite food. You won’t leave Bratislava hungry but you shouldn’t expect anything in this matter.

Next morning we passed on breakfast in bed and went down to see the buffet which was surprisingly rich – unlike some TripAdvisor comments. As we didn’t want to miss “Sendung mit der Maus” we used Radisson SAS late checkout and cought a bus back to Vienna at 14h.

Here are the pics we have taken during our stay:
